How augmented reality can change the lives of sports fans

Modern technology is changing everything, but not all at once. For example, for sports fans, nothing much has changed, except that they can monitor the progress of sports events from their smartphone or via a notification on a smart watch. For this reason, at the event, Tribeca Film Festival, the leading developers in the field of virtual reality and augmented reality began discussing the future of sports broadcasts and equipment of stadiums.

In the conversation went Director of product lines to Watson Developer Labs, AR/VR Labs in IBM Michael Liddy, Vice-President, development and strategy in Jaunt Mitzi REO and CEO of Business Insider Henry Blodgett. Hidden Michael was an avid sports fan. He believes that some very unexpected application of the technology of augmented reality and virtual reality can be applied in sports broadcasts much sooner than we think.

I wonder exactly how VR and AR will change the life of a sports fan. The first thing that comes to mind is stream in virtual reality, which will be at the stadium in the thick of things at the time, as the audience will be at home. Jaunt are already working in this direction, but it can hardly be called a technology of the future. At the moment it is impossible to watch a live broadcast in VR, the camera location is very limited, there is no possibility to enlarge the image, and the image quality leaves much to be desired.

It is obvious that these problems can be controlled when to place a sufficient number of modern VR hardware at the stadium, but Mitzi sees REO and more interesting ways of using modern technology for sports broadcasts. The bet is placed on augmented reality technology.

Imagine that you can place a tennis court at his Desk and monitor what is happening from any angle. You can turn the whole room into a stadium and to see not only athletes, but also additional information, for example, game statistics.

By the way, augmented reality will help those who prefer to personally attend sporting events and cheer from the stands. The technology will allow to combine the advantages of being on the podium and watching live TV. Devices augmented reality you can see additional information that is available in the TV broadcast, without being distracted from events on the field.

That all sounds good, but how close is a bright future for sports fans? You will be pleasantly surprised. Stream in the form of a projection is already under development, and the AR headset, according to Michael Liddane may appear in the stadiums this season of American football.
