This auction Mercedes-Benz 300SL dating back to 1954, and AMG was founded in 1967. Does this mean that any car with gull-wing doors, per definition, a time machine is?

No, this is called a restomod, a classic that later by AMG is adjusted. At the request of the infamous (ex-)megaverzamelaar, the sultan of Brunei, took AMG 6 of these classics under his hands (5x gullwing, 1x roadster). Here was not, in total, provided AMG eleven classic 300 SL’s (8 gullwings and 3 roadsters) of modern bodies.

Whether you modernize a classic sacrilege or not is up to you to judge, to those for whom this is not the case: in may auction RM Auctions a gullwing from 1954 in Monaco (chassis number 198040). Given the exorbitant original price tag of 1 million euros and the rarity goes for the new buyer is, anyway, an expensive joke.

Subcutaneous has the 300 SL six-in-line turned in a 6.0-liter V8 with 380 hp and 578 Nm. The original swingarm was an update to more modern multilink suspension.
