Vehicle giant Scania develops the first truck on hydrogen fuel

The development of a new model of electric car very few people can surprise. But electricity is not the only alternative energy that can be applied in practice. And recently, the Swedish automobile giant Scania, specializing in the production of trucks, said that already preparing to release his first truck, running on hydrogen, called Renova.

About a very interesting development said one of the leaders of the company Scania Marita Nilsson.

“We are very interested in the development of new fuel elements and use them in real projects. Hydrogen fuel cells represent a promising technology than the motors. Both of these areas are important steps in the direction of rejection of the hydrocarbons.”

In the framework of the project on creation of Renova Scania collaborates with the Swedish energy Agency and the Stockholm Royal Institute of Technology. But the most interesting thing about this project is that Renova is not just a truck, and a garbage truck. Head of research group Renova Hans Zackrisson reported the following:

“The use of fuel cells running on hydrogen is a very attractive alternative for heavy commercial vehicles like garbage trucks. Trucks in this plan is much more profitable than passenger cars. They benefit from all the advantages of a new kind of energy, while retaining some of the best aspects inherent in the engines that operate on hydrocarbons: long operation time without refueling and has a good payload.”

It is expected that the first Scania truck with hydrogen fuel cells will be delivered in late 2019 — early 2020. For the same period is scheduled to begin the first tests of the new car. The development is conducted in close cooperation with the government of Sweden, which, given the country’s course towards improving the environment, the presence of first time buyers can not survive.
