The Perlan glider set a new altitude record

Funded by the aerospace company Airbus Perlan, develops gliders designed to fly to the border of space. The developers reported about the new successful trials Panerai new altitude record which the aircraft was able to install.

The first version of the Perlan glider took to the air in 2006 and was able to fly up to a height of 15 kilometers. After that started the problems associated with the death of its founder. But the rest of the team after some time resumed development and began seeking investors. In 2014, Airbus has agreed to be main sponsor of the project and started to Fund the creation of Perlan 2.

After several years of development and tests, Perlan 2 finally went in flight and could fly almost a kilometer higher than its predecessor. To fly the glider allow the upward flow of air, so to reach such heights Bestwestern aircraft was not so simple.

The record came about in a happy coincidence, because ascending air flows reach the stratosphere everywhere. The Argentine part of the Andes is one of the few such places, and there happens to fly only a few times a year, — say the developers of Perlan 2.

Soon Perlan 2 will test some more, and then go to continue testing in Nevada, where the company’s engineers will continue to work on its design, based on obtained test data.

The next task that you set for yourself you will be even more difficult in the future they plan to improve the glider so that he could rise to a height of 27 kilometers. According to the data available to them, this may well happen. Date of the next flight is not yet known.
