Iranian drink despite alcohol ban

TEHRAN –

Alcohol is in Iran or taboo, yet drinks the population per year 60 million litres of alcohol. That has the Iranian ministry of Social Affairs reported following its own investigation. “A bad development”, according to the department.

In the strictly islamic Iran is both selling and drinking alcohol is strictly prohibited. Booze is only on the black market for a lot of money to purchase. Also stoke and sell people illegal their own drinks. Whoever gets caught first gets a hefty fine, a second offense will follow whipping.

In Iran live 80 million people. Per head of the population the drankinname so down to 0.75 litres. For comparison: in the Netherlands per head of the population, on average, 7 litres per year drunk.
