The western sanctions were more than two years ago, imposed because of Russian involvement in the conflict in Ukraine. The EU demands that Russia, the peace plan of Minsk is fully run.

Russian president Vladimir Putin should be the pro-Russian separatists in the east of Ukraine so far as they contribute to a solution to the conflict. Only then there is a view on easing the economic sanctions. The Kremlin accused the EU on Monday that the enforcement of the sanctions Kiev encourages the vredesafspraken to violate that in Minsk between Ukraine and the separatists.
