Recently, scientists have made a lot of incredible discoveries and solved many mysteries that have puzzled humanity for millennia. However, science still has many questions that have not yet been answered. For example, scientists have recently been actively debating what dark matter is, which is believed to make up most of the Universe. We have prepared five of the most monumental and interesting scientific questions that have no answers, and they are unlikely to appear in the near future.

How did life begin?
About 3.7 billion years ago, the simplest single-celled organisms appeared on Earth. They were preceded by the appearance of the so-called building blocks of life. Scientists do not know where these blocks came from. According to one version, our planet had all the conditions for the appearance of these blocks. According to another version, the building blocks of life were brought to our planet from space.
Scientists believe that the building blocks of life were: carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus and sulfur. At some point, they formed RNA. It remains a mystery why these elements are not abundant on other planets in the solar system. Perhaps they were brought to our planet by asteroids and meteorites.

How the Universe Formed
We know that the Universe is infinite, but at the same time it is expanding. This is difficult for the human mind to comprehend, since expansion implies the presence of space within which this occurs. However, any space is the Universe. And how can infinity expand at all?
But the main question is – how did the Universe arise, and what was before it? No scientist can give an exact answer to it. Moreover, it is unknown whether the Universe has a beginning or has always existed. That is, it is quite possible that the Universe is infinite not only in space, but also in time.
Of course, you can object and remind us about the Big Bang, but in fact this theory says nothing about the Origin of the Universe, but only provides an explanation for its evolution. Judge for yourself – an explosion cannot come from nothing. Therefore, the Universe existed before the explosion, although not in the form we know it.

What happens inside black holes
Black holes differ from other objects in the universe, such as planets and stars, in their incredibly strong gravity. It is so powerful that even light cannot escape from a black hole. At the same time, scientists are still puzzled by what is inside a black hole.
Stephen Hawking suggested that light and all objects falling into a black hole are not inside it, but are retained in the event horizon. And this is very strange, given that the event horizon is not inside the black hole, but outside it.
The secrets of black holes were revealed by Einstein's theory of relativity. It showed that these mysterious objects are formed when massive stars collapse. But what happens next? According to Einstein, as a black hole shrinks, it becomes infinitely dense. But now scientists have concluded that quantum physics, not relativity, is the key to true understanding.

What will the end of the universe be like?
The end of the universe is no less mysterious than its beginning. According to some scientists, the fate of the universe depends on such unknown factors as its shape and density. But can the universe have an end at all? Many astronomers believe that, thanks to dark energy, its expansion will never slow down or reverse. This will allow it to expand indefinitely. And if we assume that the universe has no beginning, then most likely it really does have no end.
At first glance, this sounds encouraging, but not for us, earthlings. Scientists know for sure that our planet, unlike the Universe, will have an end. The thing is that the Sun, like any other star, will die at some point. But before it does, it will destroy the Earth and other planets in the Solar System. However, according to scientists, as the Sun expands, Pluto may become habitable.

Is there other intelligent life in the universe?
Scientists have been trying to find an answer to this question for a long time, but so far to no avail. Even if life arises on every one planet out of a trillion, there should be about a billion planets in the universe that have life.
Scientists have discovered many exoplanets that may be suitable for life. However, there is still no evidence that these planets can have life. According to one version, life in the Universe regularly arises and dies out, but this happens at different periods of time or at huge distances, so intelligent beings from different planets cannot intersect with each other.

There is also a version that intelligent beings cannot intersect with each other because of the “Great Filter”. It can explain the Fermi paradox. You can learn more about what it is and how the “Great Filter” explains this paradox by following the link.
