How virtual reality will save the lives of Russian miners

A special VR kit has been created Russian engineers have developed a virtual reality (VR) simulator that simulates emergency situations in mines. He must teach the miners to behave correctly in such cases. It is expected that the use of simulators will help reduce the number of victims. The training system includes a VR helmet, manipulators, a realistic breathing apparatus and an original treadmill. All this simulates physical activity when moving underground. It is noted that the simulator is realistic.

A 3D model of any real mine can be loaded into the system. Any normal or abnormal situation can be simulated.

According to Izvestia, the use of the system speeds up and makes the training of mine personnel cheaper. The simulator allows you to develop muscle memory. In particular, through the system it is good to learn how to use a self-rescuer – a device that allows you to breathe when there is a lack of oxygen. The specialists saw that training on the simulator increased the time of the protective action of the self-rescuer in real conditions by two or three times.
