The first Russian aircraft on the basis of the electric motor are going to raise to the skies in 2020. This is with reference to the advanced research Foundation (PEF) reports the Agency RIA Novosti. At the beginning of February in Moscow at the Central Institute of aviation motors (CIAM) were successfully tested developed jointly with CJSC “Superox” demonstrator motor on high temperature superconductors (HTSC) with a capacity of 500 kW, the official website of FPI.
The use of high-temperature superconductors in electric motors can significantly reduce the weight and size of vehicles and power plants on their basis, according to a press release of the FPS. The main feature of superconductors — a significant reduction, up to almost complete absence of electrical resistance.
Tests of a demonstrator of a hybrid powertrain with an electric motor on the basis of high-temperature superconductivity will be scheduled on a flying laboratory.
According to experts of Fund, high-temperature superconducting motors can find application in electric or hybrid propulsion of aircraft of local airlines, advanced rotary-wing aircraft and commuter jet with vertical takeoff and landing.
“Designed for the technology can be used to create different aircraft including multirotor”, — stated in a press release, FPI.
