Very soon there will be another meeting of the Parliament of great Britain. And, it would seem, than it can adept? Even if there are to be discussed rather important issues, it is unlikely it will interest fans of high technologies and it will be interesting to someone other than politicians. Today, however, it will be about not quite ordinary meeting of deputies. The fact that shortly before the British Parliament for the first time in the history of the world will be made by the robot.
In a press release of one of the committees of the Parliament of the United Kingdom said that he invited a robot named Pepper “to answer questions” about the impact of AI on the labor market.
“Pepper is part of an international research project to develop the world’s first culturally-informed robots, aimed at providing assistance and care for the elderly. The Committee wants to hear the opinions of the robot on the work of this program and to know what is the role of automation and robotics will play in the future.”
All this sounds like the future is now and we didn’t even notice, but actually it is not so. Of course, Pepper has been known to make speeches and read news found on the Internet, but, as stated by one of the researchers of the MIT Technology Review in an interview with The Verge,
“Pepper is not able to argue. Modern robots not smart enough to lead a full debate, arguing.”
And indeed it is. As it became known, Pepper will provide pre-programmed data and answers, written by researchers of robotics Middlesex University. As noted a press-the Secretary of Parliament,
“The appearance of a robot will give the opportunity to explore the potential of new forms of interaction and its limitations.”
The purpose of this event is to find out whether it is possible to use robots with AI in the work and find out if they can provide evidence, based on available information. Experts want to spend more than a demonstration of communication, and to evaluate the potential of robotics for this purpose.
