Oh boy, oh boy!
These are golden times for racing fans: Formula 1 popped there this season, a number of very tasty races, the MotoGP battle at Phillip Island was probably the most beautiful that I have seen in 10 years have seen, in the DTM is stout made, and also in the LMP1-class of the WEC is plenty to do. Admittedly, Porsche drive this season rounds to the competition, and Toyota is well off-pace, but that draw back. In this championship is the time additionally, the great equalizer.
Nissan to the mix this season in the battle, and though still a long way to go, but who knows where the development is going. As the fifth name appears now BMW in the corridors. First in the GTE-class with the new M6 GT3, but also at the big boys, with a radical waterstofracer – for hybrid, that everyone does already.
No Garage 56
The first that probably comes to mind is the experimental Garage 56 class, which we know from the Deltawing and ZEOD, but here is aiming for BMW allegedly not, as we read in the British press. Depending on how the rules develop, the possibility exists that we have a competetief BMW-waterstofkanon with the big names see as preparation for a production model. The Germans test after all, since the last century, with the stuff, and let these recent i8 not forgotten.
Toyota?
The question that immediately imposes is ‘what is the role of partner Toyota shows’? This will have to be clear, if the plans all go ahead (2018 as a year), but a joint entry is not impossible.
BMW’s latest success at Le Mans dating back to 1999, when it won with the above V12 LMR, with a little help from Williams.
