Transmission of brain signal from one person to another has long been described in various works of fiction and, as often happens, technology was quite feasible. Because for a long time already invented sensors for recording brain activity. And if the signal can be captured, then transfer it makes no difficulties. However, the main difficulty lies in how this redirected signal to get to “understand” another person, not resorting to verbal contact. And, it seems, the experts from the University of Washington in Seattle have found a way how to do it, passing thoughts from one person to another. Moreover, scientists believe that in the future, these can be done even through the Internet.
The study is headed by a group of researchers headed by Andrea Stocco. 3 years ago scientists have developed an Arsenal of tools that allows one person to catch the certain thoughts of the other. This Toolkit included the usual device for removing the electroencephalogram (EEG) that records brain activity, and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), which can transmit information to the brain. However, the main problem of the invention was that the system could deliver only one-word information. During the old experiment were used 20 questions for which answers (Yes or no) and passed through the above-mentioned tools. But now scientists have gone even further in the new project BrainNet created a miniature “brain net” for 3 users. BrainNet allows a small group to play a game together like Tetris.
“Our results bring us closer to the moment of creation of interfaces, “brain-brain”, which allow us to find a joint solution of different problems with people connected to the “social brain network.”
The main idea of the developers is that people can change brain signals quite easily. For example, the observation of the light flash at a frequency of 15 Hz causes the brain to emit an electric signal on the same frequency, and a shift to the light frequency of 17 Hz changes the signal frequency in the same range. Using EEG, these data can be fixed, and by applying TMS to send to the brain. But the most interesting further begins: connecting three people to the network, the developers asked them to play Tetris: 1 participant only saw the top part of the screen, 2 – bottom, 3 people had control over the figures and could move or turn over. The signals that to make fed just using light bulbs. For signal to “flip” the participant was looking at the led blinking with a frequency of 15 Hz, and to move – on led light with a frequency of 17 Hz.
“Brain net” was deployed in a single laboratory, but in principle, there are no barriers in order to arrange such communication through the Internet. Cloud server interface can send the communication of information between any number of devices.”
