That will replace lithium-ion batteries?

All new electronic devices, whether it’s Xs or a brand new iPhone cheap smart bracelet for $ 1, ordered in the famous Chinese online store, have one thing in common: they all are powered by lithium-ion batteries. Moreover, with the development of technology these batteries a little change, and sometimes can not provide the proper level of autonomy of the device, forcing us to use an external charger. Of course, there are many developments in this area, but most of them are extremely expensive and not always practical. However, there is a solution and, quite possibly, soon to replace lithium zinc will come.

In addition, lithium-ion batteries are vulnerable to high temperatures, limiting their application. But to overcome all the above mentioned problems is possible. According to the publication The New York Times, NantEnergy California-based company led by Patrick soon-Singam managed to create one of the first (and most importantly effective and inexpensive) rechargeable battery based on zinc oxide.

“Testing of energy storage systems with the help of zinc took place in the last 6 years. During a series of tests, they were deployed for supply of 110 villages in nine countries of Asia and Africa. Such batteries in combination with solar batteries can be combined to create a system that feeds a small city block.” — said Mr. soon-Shion.

The main power the battery pack consists of elastic elements, inmates in special housing and PCB to control the charge accumulation and zinc oxide, which is involved in energy metabolism. Zinc battery works in such a way that its elements are not afraid of heat, so battery is not required the cooling system to prevent overheating. According to developers, now production of zinc batteries in terms of 1 kilowatt per hour should not exceed $ 100, while the cost of lithium-ion batteries last up to 300-400 dollars for the same 1 kWh.

At the moment the user NantEnergy expects to find application of its technology in telecommunications towers, and then start the provision of energy in the residential sector. The first to rely on a connection to the new source of electricity available to residents of the States of new York and California.
