The day of the founding of Google

September 4, 1956, the company IBM launched the first computer hard disk. More precisely, prototypes HDD met before, but were created by scientists for scientists and to the public were reported. And the twins hard disk IBM 350 and IBM 355 was rented to all comers in the system, the IBM 305 RAMAC (Random Access Method of Accounting and Control) for some $3200 per month.

It’s not a sports lottery machine and not an industrial heater — this is the first commercial hard drive

For such (frankly, it is unaffordable for private person) the money the buyer was a magnetic drive with a capacity of 4.4 MB is about half the space of a single file with a song in MP3 format. But in the 1950s, the hard drive was not created for entertainment, engineering tasks and accounting in large companies, so the demand for the novelty was consistently high. One of the first customers 305 RAMAC was the naval forces of the United States automotive company Chrysler.

Technically, the first hard disk of half a century ago is not so very different from modern samples: a set of disks, a ferromagnetic layer coexisted with a set of heads for reading and recording on a mechanical drive then and now. Only the hard drive was a hefty wardrobe 1.7 m tall and 1.5 wide. Amid all of the RAMAC system, which consisted of CPU, printer, punch, console, and weighed more than a ton, the hard drive was truly a miniature drive.

4 September 1973 engineer Gary Boone received a patent on a single processor. Thus, the primacy of the invention processor of the modern sample was divided between the company Texas Instruments (which worked Boone) and Intel, which in those same years, independently developed a commercial single-chip microprocessor — the Intel 4004.

Anyway, TI was the first to the idea of placing the CPU and its cache memory on a single integrated circuit — even then, the industry has made computers much more accessible and more efficient.

4 September 1998 a registered Corporation Google. Strictly speaking, the activity of the future, the search giant began two years earlier, but in 1996 it was just a student research project on creating Internet search.

Initially Google looked like this

Initially a research project was carried out by two students from Stanford University — Sergey Brin and Larry page, who jointly developed the PageRank algorithm. This algorithm, which learned how to calculate the “importance” of each page on the Internet, and was the cause of leadership among all Google similar search engines.

Initially, the company was registered in the other garage to Brin and page in the state of California, but the main — page google.com became available to everyone, as Internet search has become more convenient and “smart”.
