Almost three months on Mars has raged one of the largest dust storms, but now ended, and NASA engineers hope that the Rover opportunity will soon come back to life. The storm was first observed on may 30, and last 15 years of the Rover was heard on June 10. Then he went to sleep, because the dust blocked the sun light and the darkness hid the Red planet.
In a statement released by NASA this week said that the situation “critical,” but the Rover team is optimistic, given the “opportunity” to cope with problems during his 14 years spent on Mars.
If successful contact cannot be determined, NASA will resume the attempt in mid-October.
Awaken opportunity now or in October
“If we get in touch with him after 45 days, the team will have to conclude that blocking the Sun dust and the Martian cold conspired and led to the violation from which the Rover will not recover,” said John Callas, project Manager for opportunity at the jet propulsion Laboratory of NASA. “Our active phase of working with the “opportunity” to be completed”.
However, the passive attempts to hear the Rover will be a few months because of the “unlikely chance that solar powering the Rover, there are a large number of blocking solar energy dust.”
