Intel introduced processors for ultrathin laptops and tablets

The opening of the exhibition IFA 2018, which will be held from 31 August to 5 September in Berlin, Intel has introduced the Intel Core processors eighth-generation series U and Y. Previously, these chips were codenamed Whiskey Lake and Amber Lake. They are optimized for ultra slim and light laptops and hybrid tablets.

In the series Y (Amber Lake) includes three dual-core processor: Core M3-8100Y, i5-and i7 8200Y-8500Y. Their TDP is only 5 watts. This means that the device they do not require fans for cooling. They will make a reality the tablets with a thickness less than 7 mm and 450 grams lighter.

Series features Y Amber Lake:

  • Intel Core m3-8100Y: 2 cores/4 threads, 1.1 GHz/3.4 GHz, 4 MB cache in the third level
  • Intel Core i5-8200Y: 2 cores/4 threads, the frequency of 1.3 GHz/3.9 GHz, 4 MB cache in the third level
  • Intel Core i7-8500Y:: 2 cores/4 threads, 1.5 GHz/4.2 GHz, 4 MB cache in the third level

The series U (Whiskey Lake) included Intel Core i3-8145U, Core i5-8265U and Core i7-8565U. Their TDP is 15 watts. They were the first Intel processors with Gigabit Wi-Fi. For them, Intel promises up to 16 hours of battery life on a single charge, and is optimized for systems up to 19 hours. Also thanks to the new DSP chips to better support the work with voice assistants, Cortana and Alexa. According to the company, they are 6.5 times faster than their predecessors 5 years ago when working with 4K video (when compared to the i5-8265U i5-8400U).

Series features U Whiskey Lake:

  • Intel Core i3-8145U: 2 cores/4 threads, 2.1 GHz/3.9 GHz, 4 MB cache in the third level
  • Intel Core i5-8265U: 4 cores/8 threads, 1.6 GHz/4,1 GHz, 6 MB cache third level
  • Intel Core i7-8565U: 4 cores/8 threads, 1.8 GHz/4.6 GHz, 8 MB cache in the third level
