July 6, 1992, Microsoft has patented long file names, which would later become one of the most useful new features of Windows 95. To be precise, the patent is related to the extension for FAT file system, which allows to use for long names, despite the fact that most FAT, such support was not.

Probably, few readers remember but in the days of MS-DOS file name can contain only 8 characters and the extension is only 3. Microsoft came up with to store long names separately, and in order for them to work on computers with old operating systems, to abbreviate the names of a specific method: they received the form MICROS1.TXT.

July 6, 1920, for the first time in aircraft used the radio compass. Now it seems ridiculous, but in those days the planes were oriented exactly the same as car drivers — on the roads. Well, on the rivers and a few other large objects, visible from the air. It was not very convenient, but good for navigation when flying over populated land areas. However, in the XX century began transatlantic flights and the ocean benchmarks almost there.
On this day 90 years ago from HAMPTON roads, Virginia flew the plane on which was installed a pilot radio compass. In fact it was a receiver with multiple directional antennas. Comparing the signals received from different directions, the compass determined the direction to the beacon. The plane rose into the air on a mission to take a course on the battleship Ohio, who was in unknown pilots point off the coast. A few minutes after takeoff, the crew received a signal, but half an hour later the aircraft reached the goal.

This navigation method is even used today, primarily in not very developed countries. ADF (Automatic Direction Finder System automatic direction determination) helps set the course for the beacon or any radio station AM band. However, now there is the advanced tool — ILS (Instrument Landing System, the so-called GOST: System of tool calling of aircrafts on landing radio beacon landing), which is able to drive the approach and help to plant it, even if the pilots cannot see the ground.
6 Jul 2011 Facebook video call appeared. On this day, the users of the social networking site saw Windows to chat button with the icon of a camera “Call”. Interestingly, calls are passed through the Skype service, but to create an account there to talk to see each other was not necessary.
