Google two months taught artificial intelligence to bake cookies, but it didn’t work

It is known that employees of Google are allowed to spend some time on their own projects, which can end in nothing, or may turn into new products of the company. Taking advantage of this opportunity, a group of Google employees decided to spend part of their working time teaching artificial intelligence oven chocolate chip cookies. In their view, the algorithm had to develop the perfect taste and consistency.

Probably quite a difficult task. The computer is quite difficult to evaluate the taste of food. Moreover, everything that gave him Google employees, is a list of the ingredients had to be cooked biscuits. For the artificial intelligence used a technique called “Bayesian Optimisation”. This strategy is used when the target function is unknown.

Employees who was behind the project, frankly admit that the first creation of artificial intelligence was just awful. It took to create the 59 parties, each of which cooking skills of the machine became better. In the end it was decided to unite with the bakery, the Bourke St Bakery to create a final product. Colleagues from Business Insider was able to try these biscuits, and that’s what they say:

“Our verdict? Not really.

Instead of crumbly or dense sponge structure of the cookies resembled something between a cake and plastic.

And the sweet vanilla flavor was overpowered by the harsh scent of cardamom.

The only thing that saves him is chocolate chips.

At least now we know when the robots take over, the bakers will work.”
