The human eye is one of the most complex organs of the human body. And the loss of any structural unit of the eye can be a serious problem, which will lead to deterioration and even loss of vision. But a team of scientists from Newcastle University (UK) approached to creation of human eyes, for the first time creating from scratch the human cornea.
A team of scientists led by Professor Chi Kannanam and his colleague Dr. Steve Sviokla back in January of this year has developed a technology print fabric, called “quick freezing”. It can help to create tissues, which then could be retained for transportation and eventual transplantation, and now the experts have created a special “biochemie” for their needs. They contain stromal cells of the cornea, polysaccharides, alginates and collagen (protein in connective tissue). Print cornea the printer took only 10 minutes.
“Our biochemie created in such a way that its constituent parts nourish the stem cells in the production process. Thus, the tissue remains alive and retains its shape, while remaining sufficiently malleable in order to exit the printer without damage”.
To create the cornea can the specific dimensions of each donor individually. Now the technology is the final phase of testing and, if successful, after a couple of years will go to “arming” doctors around the world.
