Most people do everything possible to not live at a depth of three meters under the ground. But if you want to live on Mars, this may be your only affordable option. This week, the President and COO of SpaceX, Gwynne Shotwell made such a ruling in an interview with CNBC. During a conversation on the topic of the synergy of different companies, Elon musk, she made a bold prediction about the possible future of mankind on the red planet.
“I think the Boring Company will help put people on Mars. We will bore the tunnels for the kids,” said Shotwell.
Shotwell not just fantasizing about his boss. Earlier the Musk mentioned the possibility of using a Boring technology Company for the creation of underground habitats of Mars.
“You can build an entire underground city, if you want,” said Musk in July. “People will, of course, from time to time come to the surface, but with the right drilling technology could build a whole dungeon on Mars”.
SpaceX is already planning to join forces with Boring Company to transport people on Land, so it is easy to imagine how Boring Company helps SpaceX in its unearthly plans. But do the Terrans want to live underground? What about those cool dome of glass and inflatable dwellings?
It turns out that although the habitat may look cool, it also can to kill us. The atmosphere of Mars is much thinner than earth’s, and lacks the magnetic field. This means that to protect people from dangerous cosmic radiation does not work, and it is fraught with health problems.
According to NASA, if we want to protect the Martians from the harmful radiation, few options. We could build a habitat from a fairly thick material that absorbed the radiation (but it would be expensive to transport), or create a new, more efficient materials, but their development will also be expensive.
Sending one drilling machine on Mars may be the cheapest way to create a safe habitat on the planet. Of course, life underground is not as pretty as on the surface, but we will retain your ability to think clearly, to play and to live without cancer.
The company’s Elon musk will be to dig tunnels for the Martians?
