Despite rapid development of pharmacology and the emergence of new types of drugs and treatment methods, the main method of delivery of tablets, capsules and pills did not change over the entire history: medications you need to drink. Moreover, the dosage in this case, it is very difficult to pick up individually for each person. But scientists from the University of Copenhagen (Denmark) together with colleagues from åbo Akademi (Finland) opened a cheap method for the production of personalized medicines. Their technology can be applied to edible based QR code from the “ink” containing the required dose of the drug.
It is worth noting that the record “medical QR codes” can be used any conventional inkjet printer, in which it is only necessary to insert the cartridge with a special biological ink. To print these drugs can pharmacies or medical centers individually for each patient, “laying” a required dose of the substance to a specific person. This approach will reduce the risk of side effects due to mismatched dosages, and will also allow you to more effectively cope with the disease.
But why is there a need to use a QR code? The fact that QR codes, according to the authors of the technology, will allow patients to protect yourself from counterfeit. After all, obtaining edible QR code, anyone can check its authenticity using the application on the smartphone. In addition, will be able to check which medications and what is appointed to each patient, after all, QR codes are inscribed, and their validation will be possible to find out in whose name prescription drug, or even who wrote it.
