Industry sources report that Samsung Electronics scored a major deal to supply chips with the Russian Baikal company specializing in the production of equipment for mining — writes idownloadblog.
It is reported that the unit Samsung, engaged in the production of chips, will soon begin shipping 14-nanometer ASIC chips for the new mining equipment that produces Baikal. The first batch of chips are already tested and mass production is scheduled to begin in January 2018.
Industry experts said that Samsung usually prefers to deal with industry giants such as Qualcomm or Apple, for example. And the signing of these contracts with little-known Russian company that creates equipment for mining cryptocurrency — it is not in the spirit of Samsung.
Nevertheless, there is in hearing and rational link: Samsung may team up with a small but promising manufacturer of equipment for mining, and then to promote its products in South Korea, which currently is one of the five largest cryptocurrency markets.
ASIC — specialized devices designed for cryptocurrency mining, usually for one or more types of “coins”, which, however, can give much higher performance at mining cryptocurrencies than the farm on the cards.
