Set a new world record for time spent in virtual reality

If you have ever tried to imagine the technology of virtual reality (and no, we’re not talking about gadgets like the Google Cardboard), you probably understand that it inside the virtual space, you can experience some discomfort. Some people with a weak vestibular apparatus, and all can become a victim of the so-called motion sickness when they get motion sickness better than on the ship during a storm. But in the world there are courageous people willing to spend tens of hours without a break inside the VR worlds. One of these brave souls was an Australian Jack McNee, who even managed to set a new world record.

The previous record for continuous stay in virtual reality belonged to the journalist Georgie Barratt, who has been in VR applications 11 hours. But the hero of our material decided not to be penny wise and hold out for more than a day. For the experiment were chosen graphic program Brush Tilt and the HTC Vive headset. During the hours of testing Jack entertained himself that was drawing characters for various cartoons and films, for example, the characters of the series “the Simpsons”, Pikachu from the Pokémon games and even a ball named Wilson from the movie “Outcast” with Tom Hanks.

The process of establishing a new world record was broadcast in real time. In order to entertain the audience, Jack McNee played with them different games where you need to draw. Among them was Hangman and Pictionary. The rules allow Jack to do a few short breaks from drawing and communication with the audience to eat out of the hands of assistants, without removing the helmet from the head. To sleep during the experiment, he was not allowed. In the end, the hero of our material is held in a virtual reality 36 hours, 2 minutes and 16 seconds, which was an absolute world record today. But this marathon was also a practical side: donations collected in the stream were transferred to one of the American children’s charitable organizations. So Jack not only to test your body for VR-sustainability, but also helped sick children.
