Toyota introduced a hydrogen powered car with airless tires

Many automakers in recent years, embracing not only the production of electric vehicles and development of cars that use as fuel hydrogen. And recently, the Japanese carmaker Toyota in the framework of the Tokyo motor show presented the concept very interesting “hydrogen” crossover.

The concept is known as Fine-Ride Comfort and traction in addition to hydrogen, has one more interesting detail: the technology of airless tires. According to the publication Bloomberg, this design can reduce the weight of automobiles and increase their performance. In addition, the airless tires have a small motor in each wheel. Each tire consists of rubber, aluminum and plastic. All of these components along with engines weigh even less than traditional construction. Moreover, the Japanese are counting on the development of technologies that will reduce the overall weight of cars by 30% by 2025. This is particularly important for electric vehicles and other cars using alternative fuel sources, because the reduced mass will enable you to use much less fuel.

It should also be said that they themselves are airless tires made by order of the auto giant. The contractor is a company Sumitomo Rubber. And the tyre manufacturer plans even more grandiose than the Toyota. As stated by the project Manager for airless tires Sumitomo Rubber iwamura with Waco,

“Our goal is by 2020 to create a commercially successful product. But we need to overcome a lot of difficulties. For example, now when driving the friction between 10-20% more than conventional tires. Such characteristics are unacceptable, and we must find a solution in the near future”.
