New epidemic? Russian and Ukrainian media organizations attacked by virus-encoder

On the evening of 24 October 2017 the number of Russian media outlets was attacked by a new virus-the Trojan horse. At first glance, it is very similar to raging spring Petya.A or WannaCry, but by examining the output from the new virus displays on the infected computers, experts came to the conclusion that we are dealing with a new malware.

Company Group-IB, dealing with the prevention and investigation of IT-crimes, began to analyze the attacks, after which they reported that the virus the Trojan is called Badrabbit. It is reported that the offices of the affected media and organizations affected virtually all computers.

The first was attacked by the Russian media to “Fontanka” and “Interfax” — this was announced through their Twitter account. Further worrying signals have started to arrive from the Ukrainian Ministry of infrastructure, Odessa airport and Kiev metro — all of them reported the infection of new virus.
