More and more manufacturers are their developments in the sphere of creation of quantum computers. And if before all the research was quite large companies and about entering the consumer electronics market, even speech was not conducted, the connection to the “quantum race” Intel can bring a time when performance of quantum chips will become more affordable.
The press service Intel said that the company developed its first experimental 17-Kubany quantum chip. It is already tested and sent for further studies in the field of quantum technology experts from the Technological University of Delft (the Netherlands). The main aim of the new research will be to find a method of error correcting quantum code of the chip. A new method of error correction will help not only to improve the existing 17-kubango Intel processor, but will make possible a further increase in the number of qubits and the empowerment of quantum computing systems.
But it is not important. If before the “coolness” of quantum chip was measured by the number of qubits, Intel incorporated a number of innovations in architecture. The main “chip” of the chip is the method of “stacking” of qubits. As reported in a press release
“When it comes to quantum chips with superconducting qubits, the main problem is their structure and mutual arrangement. Qubits are very sensitive to interference in the form of electromagnetic waves, and the influence of these interferences can be eliminated with the right location. The qubits themselves are working at a temperature of 20 millikelvin that is already extreme conditions of operation of semiconductor chips. In addition, we have adopted the technique of “flip chip”, which allows the chip to work in conditions of very low temperatures. Inverted crystal allows you to place the reverse side of the special area. Theoretically, we can create a chip with a million qubits. But we still do not have reliable and efficient technology management in such numbers”.
