Tweets will be twice as long

SAN FRANCISCO –

Twitter, known for its messages of 140 characters, going to break with that tradition. The maximum length is doubled to 280 characters. It starts with a test on a small scale, but it is intended that in a while and everyone can make use of it.

According to Twitter, users have trouble getting their message in 140 characters lost to. This leads to cramming, or ‘cramming’, as Twitter calls it. Important words are deleted or twitterers decide their message, but not to place.

The expansion should users encourage for more on the platform. That can advertisers lure. Twitter is still growing, but it’s investors not fast enough. The medium has to do with fierce competition from newcomers like Snapchat and Instagram.

That Twitter always a maximum of 140 characters are used, is because the platform is based on sms. Those messages can be up to 160 characters long. Twitter used 140 for the message and set the remaining twenty characters for the user name.
