China closes Tibet to visitors

Foreigners are temporarily not welcome in Tibet. In connection with the forthcoming congress of the Communist Party allowed foreigners from 18 to 28 October the region don’t visit. Only when the meeting is over, can the necessary permits be applied for, so have the authorities to travel in Beijing and Lhasa.

The congress, which every five years, is the most important event on the political calendar in China. For important events or birthdays will Tibet always closed for foreign visitors. There is often unrest in the area and since 2009, more than 120 Tibetans themselves on fire against the Chinese rule to protest.

It is expected that president Xi Jinping’s upcoming party congress will use it to further strengthen its position. Observers hope that also signals about the economic course that Xi wants to sail.
