Live widgets: Hurricane Maria races with an eye on Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN –

Hurricane Maria is on Wednesday to land on the American island of Puerto Rico, where approximately 3.4 million people live. The storm did buildings in the capital, San Juan shaking on their foundations. There was also debris through the streets.

Maria is the most powerful hurricane affecting the island since 1928, when approximately three hundred people died. The storm caused previously wreaked havoc on the islands of Dominica and Guadeloupe. Thousands of Puerto Ricans have a safe refuge sought in shelters.

The U.s. National Hurricane Center predicted that at some places on the island 66 inches of rain may fall. Also can life-threatening storm surges, flash floods and mudslides to occur.
