HTC has released another unusual VR headset

It seems that the Taiwanese company HTC intends to cover each of the segments of the young emerging market of virtual reality. If you think premium stereo headset Vive they already have, together with Google, they are developing completely independent from smartphones and PCs VR-helmet on the basis of the Daydream, and now on mobile segment I decided to attempt, where it was divided and was ruled by Samsung with its Gear VR (Google Cardboard and a million various “Chinese Handicrafts” in calculation do not take). However, the new headset HTC Link is “mobile” only partly.

The thing is that the helmet HTC Link does not use the smartphone as a built-in screen to display the image. The headset two own screen diagonal of 3.6 inches each with resolution of 1080 x 1200 pixels. The frequency of the output frames equals 90 Hz, and the viewing angle – 110 degrees. But there is one good but to play entertainment content on this VR-helmet, you necessarily need a flagship smartphone HTC U11. Something similar, uses in its marketing strategy Samsung making the Gear VR only compatible with certain models of its smartphones.

The second unusual aspect of the headset HTC Link is an external camera to track head movements of the user (fixed on the helmet glow capsule), as well as a special controller reminiscent of the PlayStation Move with built-in glowing spheres. In addition, the device is equipped with additional built-in sensors like accelerometer and gyroscope, which allows to increase the already high tracking accuracy. HTC Link weighs 554 grams and is currently scheduled for release exclusively on the Japanese market. Do you plan to sell the headset outside of the Country of the rising sun – not reported.
