Macron and Merkel want EU reform

BERLIN –

The French president Emmanuel Macron and German chancellor Angela Merkel want to intensive cooperation in the European Union to reform. The leaders announced Monday at a joint press conference in Berlin to start work on a “roadmap” of the necessary measures.

The German and French governments plan in July, after the French parliamentary elections, around the table to sit down to discuss important issues. The goal is to make the eurozone more resilient against crises. Merkel said that European treaties can be custom made according.

Macron wants not only the EU reform, but also promised in his own country “radical reforms” to implement. How much room for manoeuvre he has will depend on the outcome of the parliamentary elections in June. His movement is not currently represented in the parliament.
