Green light to restart reactor Tihange

The Belgian reactor Tihange 1 as planned on 24 may, to the energy grid are linked. The nuclear watchdog FANC let Monday know here agreed to this.

The reactor is since september a standstill because of a damage of a building in the non-nuclear part of the complex not far across the border from Maastricht. The reboot is already several times postponed. “After extensive studies and careful analyses see the FANC has no elements more that a safe restart of the Tihange 1 will stand in the way,” said the watchdog.

A lot of people in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands are not happy. Therefore, on June 25 an action organized that should lead to the closure of the central. 60,000 people want a human chain of 90 km forms of Aachen via Maastricht and Liege to Tihange.
