Mauno Koivisto, the first leftist president of Finland, at the age of 93 died. Reports that the office of the president Friday.
Koivisto was in 1923 born and was the son of a shipwright. He was in 1982, the ninth president of the Scandinavian country, and served in that function, two terms of six years.
He led his country through the economic crisis that arose after the collapse of the neighbouring Soviet union and saw to the request of Finland to join the European Union in 1992.
