Oxford has created an artificial retina made of soft biomaterial

Currently existing implants is not as good as would like. Use the same for their production of solid materials are dangerous, because their properties are not the best way can affect the health of the patient. Therefore, researchers from the University of Oxford decided to create a soft artificial retina from biodegradable and natural materials. When using the risk of rejection by the body is minimal, and they should fit much better.

Scientists have produced the retina of the hydrogel and protein cell membranes. Proteins react to light and with the help of a hydrogel stimulate neurons of the eye, reports Science Daily. While the retina provides only a monochrome image, but development has not yet completed. Probably in the future developers will be able to achieve the best results.

Now the retina already tested in the lab, and soon I plan to continue research to understand the color rendering. After that it will begin testing on animals and if all goes well, in the future I will try to transplant and people.
