Fernando’s Le Mans dream for 2018 is now all in ruins

The Spaniard would love to see the Triple Crown of Motorsport to write his name; winning the GP of Monaco, Indy 500 and the 24 hours of Le Mans. For the latter, he will probably have some patience.

It is a good thing that Alonso his win in Monaco already in the bag, because with the current car he can -despite his obvious talent – a victory on his belly to write. Thus we arrive at the crux of this story: you have a good car to win.

That happiness seems to Alonso to have in Indianapolis. His Dalara-Honda of Andretti Autosport is competitive and different than you with such a motorleverancier would expect – also pretty reliable. The ideal ingredients for an Indy adventure, though it should still show whether or not a rider from the Old World, they can deal with the endless laps. Since 1911 only managed just fourteen time a European to win, including twice Nederheld Arie Luyendyk. Montoya, Villeneuve, Fitipaldi, Andretti, Graham Hill and Clark are the only ones that have both a F1-race as the Indy 500 managed to win.

Although Alonso still need to win in Indianapolis, he crosses is not under the chairs or benches that he is dreaming of the Triple Crown of Motorsport to finish. Monaco, Indianapolis and Le Mans, all winning to close, of course. To date is that only one driver managed: Graham Hill. Some came close by two of the three races to win, but Juan Pablo Montoya, reed, to date, never in Le Mans. However, he tested at the end of 2015 Porsche 919 Hybrid, so who knows he goes with the plans of Alonso in mind still looking for this unofficial, but legendary Triple Crown. Villeneuve drove in all three championships, and even won the Indy 500 in 1995 and was an F1 champion in 1997, but victory never in Monaco and at Le Mans, no pots to break.

Assume that Alonso triumphs in Indianapolis, he has just one victory during the 24 hours of Le Mans. We are, however, two paragraphs earlier come to the conclusion that there will be a good car for need and seems not for Alonso available. Top teams Porsche, and Toyota have their drivers, in principle, already for 2018 have been contracted and have prompted no interest in the services of the Spaniard. Now that would be Honda, of course, can consider itself a factory team, but whether that is a good idea…
