Our country is not particularly well known for its rich autohistorie, but that is also not to say that you knew everything about the national car production. So was the above Bugatti in the Netherlands.
Recently called @perry_snijders all the necessary Dutch manufacturers (or what’s left of it) to the current state of affairs. Of better-known names such as Spyker and VDL Nedcar to less sounding names like Isis and Silvermine. But have you ever heard of Citeria, Pennock or Charon? Nice, then you should definitely read on.
Charon
Burton you know, the English Lomax perhaps even, but also Charon makes kitcars on 2CV base. Just like the previously mentioned brands is a open sports car in the style as different manufacturers these before and just after the second world war made. The first Charon was in 1983 by Onno van Wijk built and still can be with him waiting for a ‘new’ Charon.
Pennock
Saoutchik, Mulliner, Figoni&Falaschi, Ghia, Zagato. The list of body builders who, in particular, for the war is the finest carriages built for the rolling chassis’ of brands is long. But apart from well-known names, there are also a lot of small koetsbouwers been, even in their own country. Pennock began like most others with the building of horse-drawn carriages, but switched in the early 1900’s about on cars, buses and trucks. This Delahaye 135 M by Pennock in 1948, this beautiful carriage.
Citeria
In 1957, on the Circuit of Zandvoort, a new Dutch sports car presented. Under the plastic bodywork was BMW technology is hidden. Not the V8 from the Barockengel, but a two-cylinder boxer engine from a BMW motorcycle was just behind the rear axle. Had much success Citeria, there was only two cars built before the founder 2.5 years in prison was due to the counterfeiting of cheques.
Kalmar-DAF
DAF you know, but Kalmar is a lot less known. It is a small bestelwagentje especially for the Swedish postal service was developed, but also for consumers and other businesses was for sale. The Motor and drive came from the DAF 44, but the production found in Sweden with Kalmar Mekaniska Verkstad. Inclusion in this list is therefore somewhat questionable, but he is too fun to skip.
Veth & Son
In 1840 founded as koetsbouwer and today still active as organise and aanpasser of commercial vehicles. In the meantime -and particularly in the interwar years – they provide a number of luxury cars bodywork, including this beautiful Bugatti Type 46 and Bentley 4¼ Drophead Coupe.
Hirondelle
Only five Hirondelle’s were built, including this double racing car with Porsche four-cylinder. Unlike the Porsche is the block in the Hirondelle just in the front of the tubular frame, just behind the front wheels. At least three of the five House still exist.
Cotura RS
Just as the Citeria is also this Dutch sports car based on BMW technology, but this time no tweecilindertje. The technique of the Cotura RS (COos van der TUyn Racing) came from the BMW 328. A tweeliter six-in-line. Cotura was not the only one who follows this recipe to work, also Bristol, Frazer-Nash and Veritas built just after the Second world War sports and racing cars on the basis of this prewar BMW.
Kaiser Rotterdam Deluxe
Kaiser was a relatively small American car maker, active between 1945 and 1953. Their most famous car is probably the Darin, with its doors that is to the front of the body slide. The brand is built, however, primarily cars, and did so not only in the American Wilow Run, but also in Rotterdam. Hence the name.
