At the conference for developers Google I/O in 2016, which takes place in mountain view (CA) with 18 to 20 may, Google introduced today the virtual reality platform called Daydream.
In terms of hardware, Google has promised a number of compatible devices with Daydream, but everything starts with Android smartphones. The company shall provide the manufacturers specifications, which should be in helmets, smartphones and controllers for compatibility with Daydream.
As for software, Android N will be a new VR mode that includes the application launcher and user interface, adapted to the situation when the smartphone is inserted in a virtual reality helmet. Also provides appropriate version of the Google Play Store and a number of key Android apps that work with Daydream, such as YouTube, Google Play Movies, Google Street View and Photos. Third-party developers are working on Daydream-apps including Netflix, Hulu, HBO, CNN and Wall Street Journal.
The reference design of a controller Daydream is a simple two-button device, but with the ability to track movements, allowing you to interact with games and content by movements of the wrist. According to Google, over Daydream is compatible with smartphones already working manufacturers like Samsung, HTC and Xiaomi.
