BMW M3 [E92] GT2: vergeten racer
Or he really is forgotten remains to be seen, but potdikke what a fine racer, this is it!

In 2009, BMW on the up with a particularly brutal raceversie of the then M3 (RIP V8): the M3 GT2. This car was built with an eye on commitment in the American Le Mans Series. Under the hood is the same V8 with no less than 490 bloodthirsty horses. Incidentally, the blocks in the same factory built as a Formula 1 V8 engines. Not that that F1 adventure BMW very much has been produced, but still.

Certainly in racing is not just about engines. Traction and downforce are at least as important, and so spent the engineers also have a well-deserved portion of attention to it. The body was expanded and, in the context of weight reduction was the M3 GT2 hung with enough carbon to keep the weight to 1.246 kg key. Incidentally, the form of the body to a high degree dictated by the wind tunnel and using computational fluid dynamics (CFD).

The suspension was, in contrast to what the ACO (organizer of the 24 hours of Le Mans) to prescribe a total overhaul of thrown. The standard setup of the M3 would be on the circuit will not really be able to come and so got the M3 GT2 around customized suspension to the magnesium wheels to hang. Incidentally, had the uitgeklopte body, however, the disadvantage that the frontaaloppervlak of the GT2 actually no match for the competition. For that reason, if the Bavarian brand a bit more horsepower. Sympathetic. Switching is done of course with a sequential shifting from a cool cockpit, because air-conditioning.

Or that’s all a bit wanted? Yes, it did. 0-100 km/h took only 3.1, and 3.5 seconds later, is all of 160 km/h on the counter. Even more impressive is the maximum lateral acceleration of 1.7 g. That’s roughly equivalent to a Pagani huayra, and more with its active aerodynamics and a lot of slickere carriage. The GT2 took in 2010 to the GT championship in the ALMS against cars like the 997 GT3 RSR and F430 GTE.

How that sounds? Check an impression of the wonderful sound below. It is worth it.
