Z3 Coupe
Today we go in search of Freude Am Fahren!

In principle, every car is a compromise. Even a hardcore sports car is always slightly tailored to be a bit of a comfort to deliver. Fortunately, there are still manufacturers that sporty top models offer nowadays. But still, how active they are, they usually offer a form of comfort.

We got an email from Autoblog reader Willem-Jan. At this moment, Willem-Jan Mini Cooper S from 2007. A delicious scheurijzertje, as he himself indicates. He has the car tastefully to his own wish what upgrades (316 mm brakes, slightly lowered, tussendemper removed). He is very happy with it, but the car gives him some anxiety, especially the turbo is not free of errors.

He is looking for something new, but not so much something nieuwers. It should be a sporty car. Two seats are in itself sufficient, as long as the car but is sufficient luggage space. Another requirement is that the car is more reliable than his current car, which is less electronics. It may be obvious, Willem-Jan is looking for old school driving pleasure. So a compromise in the form of 4wd, diesel or automatic transmission does not need to be made. Today we go in search of pure driving pleasure. His wishes/demands in a table:

Current /previous cars:Mini Cooper S

Sale / lease:Sale

Business / private:Private

Budget:€ 16.000

Annual mileage:14,000 km

Brandstofvoorkeur:Gasoline

Reason to purchase another car:feel like something new

Composition:1 Volwasssene

Preferred brands /models:Sporty, reliable, need 2 people to fit

No-go models / brands:Not convertibles

Before we continue looking, we would like a little communication will do. Reliability lies not only in the electronics. A Lexus LS430 has a lot of electronics, but works great. A TVR has very little of electronics, but do disappoint. As with any used car, the condition and maintenance history of interest. Anyway, these are our recommendations:

BMW Z3 Coupe (E36/8)
Willem-Jan gave to the Z3 Coupe a preference. In any case it is a very charismatic car. The zescilinders walk beautiful and they look familiar. Please note that they are quite tight. Especially if you’re taller, it is difficult. The drive is just as ie looks: somewhat classic. Not the finest BMW that you could get at the time, or the most original. Avoid the vending machine. However, an advantage: they seem to have something in value to continue to rise. Fine moving truck, by the way.

Nissan 350Z (Z33):
Perhaps the best choice you can make. The 350Z proves that the Japanese really good. The decor is quite coarsely finished, but that does not matter. In the 350Z it goes only to the drive, and that it is excellent. Fat V6 in the front, no turbo’s, manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive with quenching. For 16k, you have plenty of choice and the reliability is very good. Tip: go for the 313-hp version. That is by far the finest engine for the 350Z, arguably one of the best FR (Front engine, Rear drive) cars there is.

350Z

Honda Integra Type-R (DC2)
Perhaps the best voorwielaandrijver ever built. The Integra Type-R is a razor-sharp coupe. Park the Fast & Furious associations even, because you have to go for a original copies. The engine is an absolute gem, the 1.8 VTEC unit has zero turbo’s but it delivers equally 190pk (200 if you 98 fill-up). Driving is an absolute pleasure: the control is incredibly precise and full of feel and the engine hang blissfully on the gas. For 10-15 mille can you get a in new condition copy, although you’ll need to have a good look. Look out for copies with the steering wheel to the right, which are considerably less valuable.

Integra Type-R

Subaru Impreza WRX STI (GD)
Ok, not a two-seater. But you have, in any case, sufficient luggage space. For 16k, there are two options: a later WRX or an older STI. The STI has more power and stronger brakes, and is preferred, but is more difficult to find. The technique is tried and tested, but watch out for tuned ones. This allows the operational reliability to properly grope. Drive is a unique experience. The steering is a bit vague overall, but the engine makes up for it. Check out this video of Casper for the issues.

Impreza WRX STI

Renault Clio Renault Sport 200 Cup (X85)
If you like old-school thrills, look no further. The current Clio R. S. is a fun car but a little too adult. That is with the Clio III Phase II. The Cup has hardly any options. But you have a tight chassis responsible for a highly entertaining road holding. If someone claims that only rear wheel drive cars very well, ie a walk around the block. For 16 mille, you can find many different versions to find. Just from a dealer, with warranty. Nice. As you can see here, they are still solid also!

Clio Renault Sport Cup 200

Ford Focus RS (DBW)
Good voorwielaandrijvers spoken. The first Focus RS is still the most hardcore Focus RS. The vijfpitter looked brilliant and with the current can Wouter even a bend from drifting. But the first one was still the toughest. The frame is plankhard, the control is minuscule and the engine feels stronger than the specified 220hp suggests. Please do take a test ride to see if it’s your thing. Something with torque steer. Another advantage is that RS’and write is not very hard.

Focus RS

Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.3-16 (W201)
Ok, this is maybe a little different, but in the budget are quite nice Cosworth Benzes as possible. The later 2.5 and Evo models are much too expensive, but the 2.3 – 16 is. There is little on a 190 and this is still from the time that mercedes benz cars were overontwikkeld. But don’t illussies, they are old cars and they all have their flaws. Maintenance is fast, and parts can be tricky. The drive makes happy: the 190 is lighter than you would think and the engine is almost the best sounding four cylinder engine ever made.

190 E Cosworth

Yolo!! Chevrolet Corvette (C5)
Yes, why not a Corvette? The C5 is a heavily underrated car. However, make sure that you have a manual version, the 4 speed automatic is slow and takes all the pep out of it. Most of the European versions have the Z51 handling package (better suspension, bigger brakes and better tires). Every ride is a pleasure in this car. Please Check whether you sit in the chairs, because the default ones are not brilliant. You may also something about the border search, but they are indeed to be found.

Corvette C5
