Bucketlistmateriaal: my first lap on the Nürburgring. And that in a Peugeot RCZ R under the guidance of Kevin Abbring, professional rallycoureur for the factory team of Peugeot.
[ First look, then read? Watch the video HERE! ]
The Peugeot RCZ: as a fan of the French brand with the lion I’ve always been a bit of a difficult car found. The styling with the double bubble roof was cool, but 200 hp was emotionally still a bit. Fortunately Peugeot that after a few years, finally remedied by the RCZ-R on the market. With 270 hp and 330 Nm, according to Peugeot’s strongest production car the brand has ever placed on the market. That hp’s go all to the front wheels, but more on that later.
It is the Peugeot RCZ R that I have an item from my bucketlist go check off: a round at the Nürburgring. The last years I was several times in the Eifel to find the beautiful track to visit, but I had never kilometres on the circuit by many as the most demanding in the world is seen. Several times I thought “I just do it” but I did not. Maybe it was the main reason for this is that I do not in one or other crashvideo on Youtube rightly wanted to come out, the ‘Ring is, indeed, known to the rookies to eat for breakfast. Although I have been on a number of circuits have allowed boenderen remained the ‘Ring yet, always “a thing” for me. So, when Peugeot asked me my first round wanted to do in their RCZ R, I was very excited. When I heard that, too, under the guidance of their driver Kevin Abbring was possible, I didn’t have longer to ponder: of course I want that.
Something useful to say about a car on the basis of álleen a track experience has little value, so Peugeot has for us often that we make the RCZ R first drive in the area around the ‘Ring. For anyone who is never at the Green Hell: the circuit is located in the German Eiffel, a beautiful hilly area with beautiful routes. The perfect place to make the RCZ R good to know before I get my 20.81 kilometers on the Nürburgring, go to travel.
The RCZ R has not only a anabolenkuur under the hood to undergo, there is also considerable investment in the control of that horsepower. First, there is a Torsen differential fitted to the hp’s optimal over the front wheels to distribute. That is to be felt in the steering wheel during hard acceleration, but I find it not as annoying. The diff also provides a lot of grip to the front wheels to the spinning you need to get really awkward dealing with the right pedal. Even in the damp Eiffel know the front wheels by the 1.6 turbo supplied often very tidy on the road to get. Kudos to the engineers of Peugeot Sport, thanks to the additional horsepower, and the differential (the 19-inch wheels help, of course, a sprint to 100 as possible in 5,9 seconds. Moreover, the performance is also partly due to a small reduction in weight, the hp/weight ratio of the RCZ R is 1 hp per 4.7 pounds. Other modifications include a 10 millimeters lowering and bigger brakes.
On the roads around the ‘Ring is that the RCZ R a very long time stay neutral and not easily upset, not even on a moist, bad asphalt. Peugeot Sport has a really nice jam-constructed, moreover, the dual exhaust is a nice hum through the hills echoing. A little bit on the brave side, perhaps, but certainly not unpleasant to hear. The interior is also very nice: the chairs are fantastic, the leather covered dashboard is finished with red stitching and the short pookje turns delicious. However, there is also something to be believed. As the owner of a Peugeot I know that there is still something wants to rattle, come loose or crack. But if the logos already after a little more than 3000 miles driven, the seat is still a bit sad to mention. In addition, the back seat is really completely useless, had better Peugeot that space in the trunk attached if you ask me.
But good, grouser on that, please. We are at the ‘Ring has arrived and the weather is now completely flipped. Sun and temperatures in the second half of the twenty-ensure that it is on this Sunday, very busy on the ‘Ring. We are going to ride at a regular session of the Touristenfahrten. Kevin Abbring has another RCZ R and I step next to him to see how it is supposed to. It is not the first time that I rallycoureur plaatsneem but also now I am again under the impression of the wagenbeheersing that this kind of guests. Kevin tells me halfway between the nose and lips through that this is his seventh lap ever at the ‘Ring. He goes around as if he every nook and corner of the track, but Kevin explains that that’s just part of the job is: during rallies, it can also only once each turn optimally. You drive, after all, not multiple laps, you get one chance to hard at a stretch often tens of kilometres. And if you include the rally of Monte Carlo on your name you can convert then you know what you’re doing.
I’m happy to have the ‘Ring yet, so visit it often as I want, so I decide not to attack on Kevin his lap time to do. After we place exchanged are ” Kevin says “enjoy it” but I have noticed that I have quite a bit of am stressed. We drive the straight in the direction of the first bochtencombinatie. With small instructions, guides me with the first few turns by the direction of the access to the GP Strecke, where we turn right to go to the Nordschleife to subdue. I notice that I have been a little quieter now am I only concerned with the drive. In my mirror I see a BMW E36 arriving me the idea gives a lot faster so that I leave for. The piece, which now follows (Hatzenbach) is tricky, because of the cleanup efforts of a full in the wall flapped Volkswagen Golf V GTI right moment is underlined. The fast part of the track that follows is nice and, while I have the E36 on the horizon disappear, and an even older BMW E30 3-series in my mirrors to see appear. I’m not here for a game, so let me pass.
There are a lot of corners on this track where you can’t see what there is at the end of the turn. Especially in the blind corners are the instructions from Kevin, very useful. Sometimes it can be earlier on the gas than you think, sometimes, you need to understand a little bit decelerate for something you can’t see to the end of the turn, while you are emotionally full by can. I hope that Kevin is not doodsangsten off, but fortunately he confirms that he is pretty confident, for me a confirmation that I do not silently too fanatic about the car to the “over-driven” I’m like a guy in a MINI Cooper S did. I try to be as clean and smooth as possible to drive and come actually at the point I in the trace of a 911 GT3 and a BMW Z4 is two cars go to overtake. Still a great feeling, I must admit.
I feel the first beads of sweat on my forehead at the time that we the Karussell in scuba diving. Bizarre how hard this is, I have more circuits driven but so warm I’ve never had. Kevin wonders why the Karussell still exists, I’m personally of the opinion that he just belongs. Very uncomfortable, but part of the history. For me I see the butt of a GT86 looming. Although you never know on the ‘Ring, I’m quite sure enough that I ‘m in terms of horsepower should be able to have. Slowly I come closer and closer, we get a Clio RS, but he’s not going to on the side while I all feel that I’m past it can. After a few turns I can pass it and then immediately follows with a nice fast combination of turns and the Small Karussell. I start with the idea that I’m a little raft beginning to drive, but I also know that my tour is almost done.
I talk some things over with Kevin, while I only can think about how much I would have a round of wants. Maybe it’s good that this is not possible, so I can be a little can relax. I notice even an hour later on the way home that I hyper am, but at the same time, I’m pretty tired, a ride on the ‘Ring is really intense. I have a huge respect for those here with one or two colleagues to 24 hours in one piece their laps.
The Peugeot RCZ R is in each case a fine ‘Ringtool shown. Personally, I think you, as a beginner Nürburgringpiloot not much more horsepower should like to, indeed: a model year, neutral and very smooth coupe as the RCZ R is perhaps one of the better cars to the ‘Ring to learn to be civilised. Do you want the Ring to really learn to ride then it starts, however, with €47.800 for an RCZ R, but with guidance. Someone that you get the right directions for easy, but controlled, and without danger to others, you have rounds to make. I want Kevin Abbring very much for this great experience, hopefully he has the time to give me some more intricacies of the speed, thanks! Movie!
