[ First look, then read? Watch the video HERE! ]
Audi has long done for its first e-tron product for the mass market, but with the Audi A3 e-tron is now finally finished. Audi is consciously not a path like that of, for example, BMW. Where the brand from Bavaria with the i3 (and to a lesser extent, i8) tries to drive electric to the man with futuristic designs, going to Audi for an extension on an existing design. The Audi A3 Sportback serves as the basis for the plug-in hybrid A3 e-tron. It is also the only body style that Audi still has planned are the A3. A sedan and driedeurs hatchback will not come, but we can eventually have a Q7, A8 and e-tron models expect.
The Audi A3 e-tron features a plug-in electric drive in combination with an internal combustion engine. The electric motor is good for 102 hp, the 1.4 TFSI delivers 150 hp and the combined system power comes out at 205 hp and 350 Nm of torque. The motors cooperate with each other by means of a specially for this vehicle developed six-speed S-Tronic box with the double clutch. There is chosen for 6 gears to get the tank as compact as possible. The engines work together by means of a specially developed link. This ensures that the revolutions of the internal combustion engine to be tuned to the rpm of the electric motor at the time that the combustion engine is switched on must be. At the time that the rows together matching locks link the motors and make the motors together with their power.
Thanks to the chosen drivetrain is in theory a consumption of 1.5 litres of fuel per 100 kilometers and only 35 grams of CO2 per kilometre emissions. The A3 e-tron can be up to 50 kilometres of electric driving with a full battery. That battery pack is under the rear seat and is water cooled. The electric drivetrain has no impact on the interior space, the kofferbakruimte is just as great as that of any other A3 Sportback with Quattro drive. The batteries have a maximum capacity of 8.8 kWh and can be reached by the ordinary power supply in 3 hours and 45 minutes to charge. Via a quick charger in 2 hours and 25 minutes on a full charge the battery. The plug insert in the opening that is hidden behind the logo on the nose of the car. With a press of the release button can you lock off, and unplug the power cord from the nose to draw.
The drive in the e-tron can be done in four different ways, which you can select via the MMI system or the EV button on the dashboard. The EV mode allows you to have up to fifty km fully electric drive. Unless the batteries discharge or the kick-down of the accelerator used is the 1.4 TFSI left alone and you can silently in full electric driving. Certainly in the city is this pleasant, almost soothing. Outside the city, you can also use electric drive as a speed of 130 kilometers per hour is achievable in EV mode, but personally, I would rather choose the smart hybrid mode. In this mode, helps the internal combustion engine with at certain times and determine the car for yourself what the best drive is. If you use the battery’s will charge you for the Hybrid Charge mode and if you battery want to preserve for a later time if you choose Hybrid Hold.
Outside of the powertrain feels the e-tron is almost the same as any other Audi A3. Only if you really are a little goes throw and hurl you notice that there are 300 kilos of extra on board and feel that the weight you off the road trying to pull. The cooperation between the various engines is in the beginning just to get used to, but in the smart hybrid mode makes the car actually always the choices that I was expecting. It is in the beginning to get used to because go up of electrical energy a lot faster than with an internal combustion engine, the maximum torque is always available.
The Audi A3 Sportback e-tron arrives in the showroom are from €39.700 euro and get 7% tax, thanks to the particularly favourable uitstootcijfers. Undoubtedly a leasetopper in the cap, though there is of course competition. The i3 will be a part of the target group operate and also the Volvo V40 D4 could be a tough competitor turn out. With 190 hp, it does not much under for the A3 e-tron, and although the addition is 14% higher, it is the starting price thick €10,000 euros lower for the entry-level model.
That is so for the lovers. The fact is that the Audi A3 Sportback e-tron, a nice car is that smooth of place and is especially advantageous for the wallet is in use. Movie!
