40 years of Renault-cupraces: from R5 to Clio R. S.

The French deal and celebrate their anniversary with a nice autofeestje during the Pinksterraces at Zandvoort.
Who ever at Circuit Park Zandvoort the waves, know that the Clio plays a prominent role in the national racing scene. Renault celebrates during the upcoming Pinksterraces at Zandvoort, a beautiful anniversary, since it will already be 40 years(!) ago is that the French brand created a furore. Indeed, already way ahead of the Clio of his era, knew Renault the way to the circuit. In the meantime, passed the R5 and of course the Surgeons to the revue, but just the 5 GT Turbo. If you’re talking about bombs on wheels: this is one.
If you’ve ever the Pinksterraces you want to live and not dirty of what history, is Sunday, may 15 upcoming a date you better with red in your agenda. Apart from the free experience of the races is it possible to use all the beauty from 40 years of Renault-cupraces in and around the paddock to behold, special and unique for our country.
Of course, we’ve been in contact with Michael Event. If someone a lot of the racing at Zandvoort, knows he is and so we were curious as to his experiences with Renault Cupraces.
That experience began long before anyone ever even but the Clio had heard. Event was in 1982 -when he was still active in classes like Formula 1, 2 and 3 – a phone call from Renault the Netherlands with the question of whether he had the to with a big ‘5’ (with mid-engine) to race on it was still fast-paced circuit of Imola. I liked it and from that moment on, the French brand has an important role in the raceactiviteiten of the family Event.
Incidentally, was that 5 is a special car. Michael could remember that he, with a lead of around 200 metres to the guidance went on Dottinger Höhe, the straight of the Nürburgring. The fivers had, however, the special characteristic of a good / slipstreamed and so were two opponents to him at the end of the two-kilometre-long straight, the whistling gone.
Then got Jan Lammers in as a teammate and in 1984, the Dutch riders are one and two in the championship. In between, raced Event with the 21 what a challenging car, but managed to Michael there are races to win. That last was also for Alpine.
From the moment that Renault with the Clio went racing, had the Bleekemolens their own team. Incidentally, could the racefamilie still on the much needed support of Renault count. Sons Jeroen and Sebastiaan wrote both championships to their name, the latter is also still active in this accessible class. Jeroen also, where his busy international racing schedule allows. About luxeproblemen spoken!
On the question of which Clio is the finest was, the answer Event is resolute that the latest version is. Actually a perfect raceautootje that also at low cost going on can be held. But if he has a favorite had to choose, it was that first, toxic 5.
