The looks of Alfa’s GTV with the sound of a Busso V6. Anyone have further wishes?

That gobba on the hood, we take on the sale. No, we embrace it even. Because beautiful or ugly: it was not for nothing.

The GTV we already knew, as a development of the 1974 introduced Alfa Romeo final phasing out the GT. This design by Giorgetto Giurgiaro was again based on the final phasing, Alfa’s sporty sedan since 1972. After the restyling of 1980, the GT continues through the life as GTV, with other rear lights, much less chrome, and, of course, bumpers made of plastic. After all, the eighties and we decided that we nature is not more needed for our materials. Who were we now free, and preferably a touch of black. That was also true for the characteristic Alpha-grilletje first: that was largely ontchroomd, just as the mirrors and window pillars. Everything was a little matter. Except his temperament.

Because at the end of 1980, someone at Alfa Romeo for the 2.5-litre Busso V6 from the Alfa 6 and the GTV to assemble. A beatification seems to me to be here. Instead of the endless row of six Dell’orto’s get the Busso now, however, Bosch injection, that cultivates the sometimes capricious motor run and he is therefore also longer neatly in the only run. The plan is only getting more beautiful. But if, after this success story the cover satisfied collapse looms there is a problem. It fits for no meter. Fica.

No need, a power bulge looks great. And for notorious walgers, there is, for now, the 2.0-litre version (the 1.6 came in 1981 due to expire), then missing that krachtbobbel. And 30 HORSEPOWER: the four-cylinder engine delivers 130 HORSEPOWER at the rear wheels, the smooth V6 will do 160. This is an acceleration from 0-100 km/h is possible in 8 seconds. But in those few seconds, there must be a lot of work, since it can switch in an Alpha you: you’re there as press.

They were already not known to be butter soft switch, that Milanese delicacies, and also in this GTV was the transaxle construction, the quick change of a resistance to a power-turn exercise, where Epke zonderland will be today, the day still turned out to be. That came not so much by the container itself, but by the long distance of poker to bake a person had to be. For the weight distribution was ideal that the transmission between the rear wheels was, but for quickly and flawlessly switch was a disadvantage. It is certainly possible, but you have exactly the right speeds and feel them the right to do with that sharp poker. But, as I said, you can get nothing.

Once at speed however, the onbekrachtigde steering gives great feel and the weight of that lovely Busso on the front wheels makes it straight-ahead driving nice and stable. That love you have for a while. Especially in those wonderful tubs with the typical, mesh conditioned head restraints. The klokkenwinkel, with the tachometer in the middle, was now right in front of the driver rather than the central placement in the older types. Less separate, or better to read. In addition, it was ergonomics is still not very high on the priority list in Milan, at the time, was quickly satisfied. That enough buttons were was important, not where they were. In the dark and in a sense, could anything happen on the road.

That keeps it exciting, as well as more power than the standard 160 HP. Like the autodelta based versions of the GTV: the German importer let all well before the introduction of the GTV6 20 copies of the GTV by Alfa’s autosportafdeling with the 2.6 liter achtcilinder from the Montreal. Except for a possible even better sound, it delivers 200 HP at the rear wheels. A weirdly delicious combination…

The same boffins of the Alpha build in addition to 400 GTV 2.0 Turbodelta. These street versions for homologation the Group 4 rally car deliver 150 HP. Of the GTV6, there are also the 3.0-litre variants, among others, in our own country, built by Savali from Wood. Alfa Romeo’s plant in South Africa builds even 200 3.0 litre versions, as well as a GTV6 with a Turbo, of which about 750 units are produced. The American Callaway Turbosystems takes it up a notch and builds for Alfa GTV6 Twinturbo, with thick 230 HP. In an edition of 35 pieces, so very exclusive.

That is true today for the normal, until 1987 built GTV even though: they are virtually untraceable. An advantage if you like Alfa Romeo to have. But love that also but even full right next to such nice GTV6 with its unmistakable sound and looks. A good fortuna.
