Vettel
Vettel has publicly of his mouth pulled up about the new qualifications system.

Friday was the bullet through the church. The new system of qualifications for the F1 grid positions by the FIA approved. The system works with an elimination-concept, where in each case the slowest rider in a series of a few minutes is turned off. Make sure that you are not the last to state so. A bit similar level as mario kart or Lego Racers, indeed.

Vettel proclaims, according to motorsport.com that system is completely against the DNA of Formula 1 starts. First, he has at all, never a reason given to the ‘old’ qualifications system to adapt. He also says that this decision has been concluded due to a lack of leadership. He tells the following:

“It’s important that the sport remains a sport. I can see the excitement for some people of the randomness but I think it’s important for the sport to remain a sport, so in the end the fastest driver comes out on top to pair with the strongest team.

“That has been in the DNA of Formula 1 forever as far as I can remember. Trying to change that in such an extreme manner is the wrong way to go and it creates chaos and it creates criticism among the drivers and the fans. In that regards it’s fair to say it lacks leadership.

The random factor of the eliminate for the viewer an exciting aspect, but for the riders degradation of the motorsport. That is how Vettel is the opposite.

F1 boss Claire Williams says not to be quick to judge. The system would, indeed, come to the grid a little bit to shake things up, so race more exciting. Only after the racedebuut in Melbourne may there be judged. Said Williams.

And then just this
Melbourne is fast, because the oefenrondes have now expired. Vettel ended yesterday, the pilots with the fastest time in Catalunya from 1.22,852. The second fastest time (of 1.23,134) was by Carlos Sainz claimed. Not bad. STR team boss Franz Tost proclaimed this very happy and never seen such a high level to have met with the team. Everyone is happy. Overall, Max and Carlos in Barcelona, 602 laps with their new Ferrari-powered car.
