At the beginning of this century, threw Renault with particular design to the helm. At that time they were not really understood, but were the French -in hindsight – their time not just (to) far forward?
The recent introduction of the new Renault Scénic put I, the undersigned, think. The comments on the look were quite positive, but actually I saw there, particularly from the front, just a more modern and especially tight Avantime in. You know, that thing that Renault to the paving stones is not lost and that the brand is there in total(!) still no 9.000 knew to wear off.
About the Avantime we can’t have it, the *barf*responses we know now. Central state, therefore, the Vel Satis at the time a pretty expensive car in no time and in comfort all the necessary miles highway to devour. And which, moreover, competed with the Avantime from own stable. Convenient timing men.
In the eight years that Renault, the Vel Satis built, there were eight different engines available, with capacities of between 140 and 245 hp. Outside of the special appearance and the positioning in the higher market segment, was the thick French guy equipped with all kinds of electronics. Unfortunately, there is a strong dose of interference involved, so at present they are not known as super reliable.
However, you may wonder if the successor of the Safrane in the streets from now would look out of place. Better yet: put ‘m next to a Mercedes R-class (another class, but about the same shape) and it is almost a handsome car. If Renault a few kilos off would be planing and the electronics would improve, this was perhaps just a great reisauto.
Long story short: it was the Vel Satis of its time (too) far ahead, or was it just a failed attempt of Renault to be in the higher segment to crochet?
