718 Boxster
Indeed. A graceful buttocks.

We all have a opinion about: downsizing. In a nutshell: all the fun big engines are stripped of their cylinders and get a turbootje. This increases the efficiency at part load and the engines can be smaller and therefore lighter. Disadvantage: the sound is less spectacular. And something with reliability. Advantage: the power and the torque are increasing. In order to give an overview of how it relates, an overview. With as direct and possibly leading object, the all-new Porsche 718 Boxter.

718 Boxster

The Boxster has always been the 911-light. You wanted the Super Soaker 200, but you got all the 50: that did it fine. And it cost less. The big advantage of the Boxster was the six-cylinder boxer engine. That was not as strong as that of the 911, but it sounded at least as good. Das war einmal, today should be the entry-level Boxster to make do with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder. Still a boxer engine, luckily. In a Subaru sounded this always fine, so maybe it is less than we now expect. What I, the undersigned, surprised, was the performance potential of Porsche’s smallest.

In the past everything was better, nicer and faster. But we’re going to the 718 Boxster take a trip along the ruler. How does this relate to the heroes of yesteryear? We go out of the cheapest version, a 718 Boxster (982) with manual gearbox. This is on the driveway of the neighbor of choice for the reasonable price of € 67.800. Performance: 0-100 in 5.1 seconds, top of 275 km/h.

911 Turbo 3.3 (930)

1978: 911 Turbo 3.3 (930)
We take not even the first series 3.0 Turbo’s, because with 260 hp, it is not really a party. The 930 Turbo 3.3 delivers a healthy 300 horsepower. The standaardsprint took to 5.4 seconds, while the cake was in at 261 km/h. So if you have the Turbo well out of position and gets everything out of the manual 4(!)-bake, then you will be a standard 718 not keep up.

944 Turbo S (951)

1988: 944 Turbo S (951)
Four cylinder turbos are nothing new for Porsche. The 944 was always a fine driving car, and with the advent of the Turbo, and also has a very smooth. The engine was half a V8 from the 928, and knew with a KKK turbo 250 hp and 350 Nm. In terms of performance ie on the back of the 718: 0-100 in 5.7 seconds and to a top of 260, while great values, but remain behind that of the Boxster.

911 Carrera RS (964)

1991: 911 Carrera RS (964)
The big favorite of @Wouter. And actually @CasperH. Perhaps the most ‘911’ 911. Lightweight, simple, strong engine and a lot of sensations. In terms of investment, it was a few years ago the best choice you could make. But in terms of outright performance puts ie still is at 718. 0-100 in 5,4 seconds, while the top 260.

968 Club Sport

1992: Porsche 968 Club Sport
Perhaps one of the most purist cars of the 90’s. Thick 3.0 four-cylinder engine, transaxle, stripped interior and a heavenly balance sheet. Prices are increasing greatly at this time. That is remarkable, because the Club Sport at that time was 13 mille in euro’s cheaper than the more luxurious ‘regular’ 968. It doesn’t matter, because in terms of performance, this icon is not even in the vicinity of the 718, both the sprint (6.5 seconds) and top speed (252 km/h).

80 Avant RS2 (B4)

1994: Audi 80 Avant RS2 (B4)
Strictly speaking, not a Porsche, though there will be Porsche wheels, lamps, mirrors and brakes. It was the RS2, a very formidable sprinter and was the top speed even not bounded. It’s not helping, because with 5.4 seconds 264 km/h, the values remain behind. Small note: Porsche was very conservative with the performance problems, because a station faster than a ‘real’ Porsche, that of course could not. However, the RS2 there is a tough to have to the 718.

Das Booty

1995: 911 Carrera 4S (993)
The last air-cooled 911. And then even in a tasty version which quite a in price to the increase. The ‘S’ models had 285 hp and the ‘4’ models, of course, all-wheel drive. Combine these two together, and you can in 5,3 seconds for the 100 sprint and the top speed is up to 270 km/h. Fine values, but not enough. The 993 RS 3.8 is a very small bit quicker than a standard Boxster (5.0 s/277 km/h).

928 GTS

1995: 928 GTS
Beginning of the 90’s, Porsche found out that the 911 not had follow-up by the 928. That prevented Porsche not to have one more good tackle with the 928 GTS. The 5.4 litre V8 produced in his last years, 350 hp and 500 Nm. Fine values. However, not enough to use the 718 to stay: 0-100 in 5,4 seconds. In terms of top speed it is a match, because with 275 km/h is the top speed krek any.

911 Carrera (996)

1998: 911 Carrera (996)
By the lovers maligned, but it is one of the success stories of Porsche. So the 996 must also pass the measure. With 300pk just as strong as the Boxster. However, the sprint takes 5.2 seconds, just longer. This makes the 996 on the highway turn out okay, because they know the 280 to tapping.

Cayenne Turbo S (955)

2006: Cayenne Turbo S (955)
This may not be the most appealing Porsche, but a lack of speed can not be denied. This is the chance that you have a Cayenne Turbo come across greater than a rare 911 RS. The Cayenne rider need only rc cars: 4WD and automatic transmission do the rest. For this comparison, we take the strongest of the first series: the Cayenne Turbo S. the Pumps are too thick to 520 hp and 720 Nm. Unfortunately, it is not enough, because with 5.2 seconds to 100 and a top of 270 km/h do you keep a standard Boxster, again, not at.

Boxster Spyder (987.2)

2010: Boxster Spyder (987.2)
One of the most pure Porsche cars of recent history. Lighter, sharper, stronger: 320 horsepower from the six cylinder to a weight of 1250 kg. It might all be futile, because the Spyder sprint, although just as fast to 100, but the lack of a roof means that at 267 km/h the cake.

Vanuit deze hoek ziet de Panamera er best goed uit!

2014: Porsche Panamera S e-Hybrid
Admittedly, it’s not really the most legendarsiche Porsches ever. But the chance that you happen to come across one at the traffic lights is a lot greater. The Panamera S e-Hybrid is next bijtellingsvriendelijk is also very fast. Thanks to the electric motor and the V6 with a mechanical compressor (Audi S4), there are 416 all horses on the asphalt, released. However, it is not sufficient: on the sprint (5,5), and at top speed (270) remains the standard Boxster just for.

Macan GTS (95B)

2016: Macan GTS (95B)
Even Wouter found the Macan GTS to be a very successful car. Somewhat cryptic defined, because for vrouwlief… To eventually often be in to drive, probably. No problem, because it is a great cart. And the performance is excellent, but crazy enough, not enough for a standard Boxstertje to drive. The sprint lasts longer (up to 5.2 sec) and in terms of top explains it all (256 km/h).

Conlcusie: with a standard 718 Boxster you have an excellent entry-level model. Yes, the glamour is slightly less, but the performances are excellent. Many legendary Porsches you with ease remain. But it is a sports car, not a Golf R with skylight. You have rear-wheel drive, the engine is in the middle and you should still switch. In addition, the design is pretty timeless and is a successful compromise between a pure sports car and a car which you can use. And the toppers of yesteryear can continue.

All of the top? No, there was a model that the brave resistance it offered. One that indicates that Porsche is damn well knew that the concept of the 911 is not sacred. With the four-cylinder also. In 1993, built by Porsche Motorsport 16 pieces of the 968 Turbo S. This insinuates that there is also a non-‘S’ 968 Turbo should have been, however, this was not the case.

968 Turbo S

The specs are impressive. Power was 305 hp, the torque was a bizarre high with 500 Nm. This meant 0-100 in just 4.7 seconds and to a top of 282 km/h. All very conservative values, because the 968 was allowed to ab-so-luut not faster than the 911, of course. The lap time was around 20 (!) seconds lower on the Nordschleife than a 964 Turbo S (that is so even faster than the R32 Skyline GT-R V-Spec II). However, this car would be the final nail in the coffin mean for the when moderate selling 911. Porsche chose the 968 Turbo S project to stop and focus on the development of the Boxster, which is considerably lower positioned. For an entry-level model that legendary Porsches, the check would give, of course that cannot be. Oh…
