It makes no sense to send people into space if they will not be able to survive the return to Earth. While in the early years of space exploration humans have sacrificed animals, testing all the systems before the flight people, the modern process of testing helps to ensure that the capsule will survive the return from space before it will put a living creature. Last week, the Boeing company tested its capsule Starliner for strength.
And these tests have completed successfully! Ideally, the capsule should release the parachute and gently lowered to the surface of the Earth. However, the return from space does not always go smoothly, so it is important to ensure that the capsule is also able to fall into the ocean.
Research center at Langley, which were tested, are the main platform for NASA to test their devices for durability. So, last summer the Agency conducted a crash test of aircraft, learning where best to store black boxes. As a result, NASA even released a video, which became a hit among video of the crash tests. Perhaps, after the test capsule Starliner, the Agency will assemble the footage into one amazing video.
