In the near of Enschede, would be 200,000 gallons of crude oil to the surface are ‘bubbled’ and there is reportedly 500 litres per hour.
Just to be clear, this issue does not take place in the Netherlands, but in Germany, just across the border near Enschede. There are in underground zoutholtes millions of gallons of crude oil saved. Through a leak now would thousands of gallons of oil to the surface bubbling. EénVandaag was one of the few camera crews access to the disaster zone, and noted that the oil in the ditches and meadows drives. Ten cows became sick after drinking contaminated water and had to be euthanized.
This problem increases the tensions in their own country regarding the storage of 70 million litres of diesel fuel (also in Enschede). This project is carried out by AkzoNobel. The government wants the oil this year in similar zoutholtes save.
The mayors of Enschede and Hengelo have become an urgent letter to minister Kamp of Economic Affairs sent. They demand more clarity on the issue and want the safety of their cities, 100 percent guaranteed.
