“The new rules does the F1 not more.” Signed: Luca di Montezemolo, CEO of Ferrari, which is finished with king’s class of motorsport. Is there a departure?
Ferrari, that this F1 season so far, moderate performance, is openly his dislike of the new Formula 1 rules in writing to make it in the media. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal gives Di Montezemolo in clear wording that the new F1 rules don’t work, and implying that they are a departure from the Formula 1 does not exclude:
“The F1 is going backwards by the new rules of the FIA. People watch for the spectacle, not for the riders as efficiently as possible, to see racing and ties to spare.”
Also the technical restrictions that F1 teams from the interim to the engine to tinker casts the Italian brand, with a golden history in the F1. And of course, there was still a sneer distributed to the muffled engine sound this year, which Di Montezemolo joins an illustrious list of names that the sound of the racing can not bear.
Ferrari at Le Mans?
The question is: how seriously we should take the threats made by Ferrari? F1-teams suggest, however, often that they want to leave out the F1, generally, to lobby for a regelwijziging. Now it seems however to the hand, because the Italians are hard and openly flirting with Le Mans. All day talking of the rumours that Ferrari for a return in the LMP1-class considering where they between 1947 and 1973, nine victories managed to achieve. Insiders report that Ferrari this weekend will be disclose. In addition, the computed Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso that the 24 Hours of Le Mans this afternoon afvlagt. A clear signal to the FIA, it seems obvious to us. And Di Montezemolo gave in the interview itself that they are from 2020 or even may be present on the Le Mans starting grid.
In short, there is brewing something within Ferrari, and the door to Le Mans are becoming more and more open.
We asked our Le Mans-expert Robert van den Oever to leave a comment about how realistic a return to Ferrari in Le Mans is:
“Ferrari in LMP1 could be, but it seems to me what many in conjunction with Formula 1. I think that they are F1, never let fall, as the oldest and most loyal participant. So, an equally great effort (financial, technical etc) and in WEC/LM at the top next to the F1 seems to me to be difficult. Both are, after all, fabrieksprojecten and no customer teams, such as the 458 GT3 where they gold to earn money, just like Porsche and Audi with the 911 and the R8 GT3’s.
Now it is true that prototype sportscar racing much more publicity than many other classes. This year it is in Europe, perhaps more popular than F1 by the return of Porsche. Mid-90s threatened to LM the road to drop because all the factory teams it stopped and the field is also at the top of a jumble of private teams seemed to be.”
Di Montezemolo gave also clear that they are not going to both going to do. “Of course we will not be able to bet on F1, other motorsport at the same time.”. A nasty clear signal that Le Mans beckons and F1 from the grace begins to hit at Ferrari. A catastrophe for the already not so great ratings.
