The famous Silberpfeilen as you have never seen them.

The Czech media company Playground Productions has tried to cover the most memorable moments from the 80-year history of the Silberpfeil racing cars in the picture. In a way that commands respect, because the result is amazing.

To the racing cars from the period 1934-1939 as realistic as possible to mimic, they are so thoroughly gone. It is almost unimaginable how much time and effort here is put into it. It began with the study of all available photos, books, videos, and details on the cars from 80 years ago. On the basis thereof were rough sketches, supplemented with a dose of computer-generated imagery (CGI). With these techniques, are first 3d models of 20 copies of the Mercedes, Auto Union, Maserati, Alfa Romeo and Bugatti ‘created’. Only later were they in the right setting put.

Most of the labor is in setting up the locations. With a gaze full of extras, the scenes in the really imitated, complete with racekledij – 200 different costumes and nepregen which the spectators descended upon. The shoot lasted five days and was spread over three different locations.

This was followed by the merging of the photos, the 3d-models, and finishing. An example of this process is shown in the photos below.

In two years ‘ time, the team eventually ten various CGI locations have been created, which have resulted in twelve different photos. A project where, according to Mercedes, and the company Playground Productions 9.472 hours in is going to sit. The final result was presented at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which last month took place.
